Christmas is a great time for family and friends to gather together in joy. Even more importantly, it symbolizes the event in which God gave us the Gift of Salvation through the birth of our Savior. We are no longer living under a death sentence. He will give us an eternal purpose and an eternal life, if we accept.

I am sure we all realize that none of us knows the exact date of Jesus’ birth. It almost certainly was not December 25, but really, who cares. What matters is, that we take a day out of the year to commemorate and celebrate the birth of the Savior.

The Christmas holiday is also perhaps the greatest secular, family, and societal holiday as well. Those facts remain true, although they are often under assault.

It is also true that some of the symbols of that secular Christmas, are pagan in their origins. Such as the Christmas tree. The vast majority of people do not know that, and they have zero thoughts of any sort of pagan worship when they join together and decorate that family tree. The tree has come to represent a season of giving and happiness, as well as the coming together in choosing it and decorating it.   

Children are featured on Christmas and why not, Jesus came to us as a child not an adult. God on earth in the form of a new born baby.

Many of you know my appreciation for great song lyrics. I have loaded the pages of this blog many a time with words I found provocative or illuminating in various songs. Such is certainly the case with several Christmas songs.

Below is one of the most powerful. It is called Mary Did You Know? The answer is yes she did, as she was informed by an angel. 

The lyrics are even more powerful when heard with the music which was written to accompany it. This song with that music and a great singer/stylist, is amazing in what it asks, and in what it plainly states.

( the term “I Am“, is letting us know that Christ is in fact, the one and only God. God  reveled Himself using that phrase when speaking to Moses)

The verse below is from the Old Testament, well before the birth of Christ.  The name Immanuel, means “God with us”.

 Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and we will call Him Immanuel.”

 Next we have one of the best known Christmas songs, called O Holy Night.
