Freedom and Faith

One does not need to be free to have faith, but freedom is essential to share that faith or to publicly proclaim it. The two are akin to bread and water. You can have one without the other, but without both you will surely perish over time.

Without freedom, especially to speak and vent one’s mind, we will always be subject to the whims and whimsies of one totalitarian demagogue or another. Does it really matter if they come from the left or the right?

I am at a stage in my life where certain things frighten me more readily than they once did, but other things that I may have been timid or worried about, cause me very little concern.

Some of those fears from the first category may be because as the years wear upon body and mind, I may not be up to handling everything that might be tossed in my direction.  Then again, many issues that would have terrified me in younger years, are of little concern now because what can you really do to me?  Whatever it may be, it’s probably been done to me before…….yet here I am.

I believe freedom, as long as it is not used to hurt someone, is a God given right.

That brings me to the subject of faith.

Faith is either meaningless or destructive if not placed in the right location. The location, in a free society, is up to those claiming that faith. As long as you do not inspire to or commit harm, be it physical or other, and as long as you do not require that others, believe as you do, but only proclaim it and/or teach it, it is your faith to hold, practice, and speak or write about.  Let nobody teach you differently.

It seems to me that freedom with no faith, and faith without freedom, are both disastrous.

I offer no excuses or apologies for how I feel about those freedoms or that faith.

Galatians 5:1
For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

The American symbol of freedom.

The one with whom I place my Faith, Jesus Christ, as represented in this fine painting.

Live free, be faithful, and may God Bless,
Wayne
