It is a rare day indeed when I actually put a camera into use, but I did make a few backyard pix of common birds this morning.  I did have an enjoyable time and it was a very good feeling to employ some photographic skills once again.  The first three images were made in early February and I had long forgotten them in my camera.

I just re-read yesterday’s post on my migratory bird excursion of a week or so ago and realized that it may appear as though I made those Meadowlark images while birding on that day.  Those are all old images.

Male Red-breasted Mergansers

Canada Geese

My reason for including such an average picture of a bird like the Canada Goose below, is this appears to be a Lesser Canada Goose by its head shape and short neck length.

From today:  Some very vocal Common Grackles

Red-winged Blackbird

American Robin

Thank you

You have the birds, I have the wildflowers. Blooming in my yard are redbud, dogwood, 3 species of violets, hepatica, bluebells, rue anemones, vinca, and jonquils.

You need to go to Hawthorne to see if the marsh merigolds are blooming. Then you know spring is there.

I forgot the yellow and purple sessile trillium, and blood root. By the end of next week the pinxter flower and the yellow flame azeleas will be blooming.

  3. Sounds like a good place to hold a flower workshop. The Smokies are class AAA!
