I do believe there is a strange kind of outlook that all nature photographers share. It doesn’t matter whether they are professionals or serious amateurs. It is the recognition of the art that exists in a fraction of a second of time. Maybe 1/500th of a second or so? It is also the endless curiosity about our subject. Nature in one form or another. Tell me if this sounds familiar. You are driving to the store, and you stop at a traffic light. A sparrow, any kind of sparrow lands on a branch of a landscaping tree in the center island. You see a beautiful picture. You wish you had your camera gear with you. The person behind you finally wakes you from your daydream with the sound of his car horn. You groan as you rise at 5:00 a.m. and quickly ready yourself for another day in the “salt mines”, or whatever your job may be. You walk out the door just as the morning sun lights up the clouds to the east. You leave for work but your skills may lack a little today as pictures of those clouds still race through your mind. You are A Special Kind of Breed. Even if the day finally comes where you can no longer create imagery of the natural world, those pictures will never stop. Trust me.
Red-tailed Hawk/Bong State Rec. Area, Wisconsin
Rough-legged hawk/Horicon Marsh NWR, Wisconsin
Steller’s Jay/Estes Park, Colorado
Chipping Sparrow/Hawthorn Hollow Nature Sanctuary, Wisconsin
Cade’s Cove/Great Smoky Mountains N.P., Tennessee. There is no better place to celebrate the arrival of spring.
Great Sand Dunes N.P., Colorado. This is an unusual and a very special place. Scrub desert, sand desert, high mountains, and a fair amount of precipitation all in one place. If you look very carefully at the second picture below, towards the lower right hand corner, just above the trees and just below what is a river of water (snow melt) you will see several people. The dunes reach seven hundred feet in some spots.
Hello There!!! American Bittern/Horicon Marsh NWR, Wisconsin![]()
All God’s Critters are beautiful if the timing and light are right. Immature Ring-billed Gull.
There have been at least three instances of speculation as to where I am now located or have been located over recent months. Somewhere in Wisconsin, Colorado and northern New Mexico have all been suggested. In the end it is not really significant where you hang your hat. It is how you live not where. Win, lose or draw I am doing what I have always done. Moving along the best I can.
Thanks for stopping by.

Wherever you are, whatever you’re currently doing, thanks Wayne. I enjoy reading your new posts and viewing the photos and am glad you’ve been able to continue this site. I loved the bittern and spider today, lovely photos.
Take care:)
Thanks Cindy I appreciate that. Keep making those dragonfly images.
