Lyrically Speaking

I haven’t hit you with a few song lyrics for a while, so here we go.

I am featuring country legend Garth Brooks today. He once did a concert in New York’s Central Park. Folk singers Simon & Garfunkel previously put tens of thousand people in the park for one of their free concerts. I believe that Brooks packed in a few hundred thousand at that same locale.

Brooks wrote many of his songs and his sometimes tumultuous life, along with his ever changing views of the world around us, at times made for memorable words.

The Dance, and Low Places are among those that jump out at me. I did not say I agree with what he says, only that he says it as a poet, and I can also relate via my past. There have been many dances, and many low places in my life. Sometimes they happened at the same time.

The Dance

The dance we shared
‘Neath the stars above
For a moment
All the world was right
But how could I have known
That you’d ever say goodbye
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance
Holding you
I held everything
For a moment
Wasn’t I the king?
If I’d only known
How the king would fall
Hey, who’s to say
You know I might have changed it all
And now I’m glad I didn’t know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the dance
It’s my life, it’s better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I’d have had to miss the (dance)

If I (Wayne) may chime in, never miss the dance.

Low Places

Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know, the last one to show
I was the last one you thought you’d see there
And I saw the surprise and the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you, said, “Honey, we may be through
But you’ll never hear me complain”
‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away
And I’ll be OK
Yeah, I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places
Well, I guess I was wrong, I just don’t belong
But then I’ve been there before
Everything’s all right, I’ll just say good night
And I’ll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn’t mean to cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I’ll be as high as that ivory tower
That you’re livin’ in
‘Cause I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away
And I’ll be OK
Yeah, I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away
And I’ll be OK
Yeah, I’m not big on social graces
Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I’ve got friends in low places
Yeah, I’ve got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away

And I’ll be OK

Images, unless they are of a road sign or the pages of a book, are not words. With that being said, in many ways images can invoke thoughts which are then organized in our brains via the spoken word.

Words can conjure images, and images words. We can paint a picture with our words, and we can create words for our images.

It’s All About The Light

We live in a crazy world. That happens of course because mankind is largely crazy. It has been crazy since Adam and Eve gave birth to sin, while in the garden.

Scenario.

Two little boys get into a shoving match in the school yard during recess. In front of everybody, and they decide to meet in back of the school, after classes, and fight. All the little boys and girls will be there to watch. Of course the human animal loves a good fight.

They are both afraid of being hurt physically, but they fear even more that they might be branded a coward.

In many respects, that is the whole world today. Little boys and girls, acting tough in politics and otherwise. Hitting with words, as well as guns and other such things.

With that said, may I make a comment on what is an actual war if you will.

There is a time in a war, when you have been given no options, and defense can only be successful via a swift, powerful, and eventually final, offense.

Remember the atom bombs that hit Japan so many years ago? We have never had another fight with Japan. They actually are a trusted ally.

Peace be with you, and may God Bless,
Wayne
