Autumn +

As we are in the “autumn of the year”, I will begin today with a landscape from this season. I wonder how many hours of my photographic life I have devoted to making images of red and gold in October and November? Early September in the mountains.

Once again contrast. That balance between light and dark, helps add some pop to a photo.

In the case below, instead of a warm to cool contrast, such as with warm red and gold leaves and a cool blue sky, we have somewhat bright and very colorful trees contrasting with a dark background of evergreens of some sort.

Okay, so now it’s spring. No winter!

A admit that I have made fewer spring landscapes than of any other season. I wonder why.

The splash of light on the greenery in the background, and then in the water reflecting that greenery in that spot between the trees, gives this image some you guessed it, contrast.

On to a Mute Swan along the shores if Lake Michigan. It is always nice to get close to your subject. To put viewers right into the scene so to speak. It almost feels like this is a paid model doing varied poses for me.

My subject didn’t charge me or turn away from me so I said thank you and moved on. I always thanked my subjects when I was done.

Below we have a male Indigo Bunting. I was probably near a bird feeding station, sitting on a bench with camera, long lens and tripod. Maybe just communing with my subjects, or maybe with another person be they friend or stranger. No better way to spend a day!

Flight photography is always fun and exhilarating. Years of auto racing photography panning with race cars sometimes going over 200mph, helped greatly while doing so with let’s say, a flock of White Pelicans.

There was nothing like a chubby moth caterpillar to make my day. This one was not active which made for easy photography. Do watch out for your tripod legs or you will knock your subject from its perch.

Finally we will see one more time, that contrasty light can serve to add drama and beauty to a subject. Sometimes I looked for scenes where the light and dark complimented each other. Here s splash of sunlight through the trees gave me what I needed.

May God Bless,
Wayne
