Aviantrics

Okay, so I invented a new word for today’s title.

We are all about birds today. Our feathered friends! They pose for us on the ground, in the air, in the water, on top of and at the edges of everything. They also gift us with every imaginable type of behavior.

The color of light, has as much to do with bird photography as it does landscape photography.

The two Snowy Owl photos below, show just what a short period of time on a sunny morning can bring, when it comes to not only the color of light, but whatever is bathed in that light. In this case an owl.

I imagine some people would hate the early morning image because they will say that is not the color of a Snowy Owl. I will say, yes it is when the owl is bathed in that warm light.

To me, they are equally valid, although I lead to the artistic “flavor” that the warm, rising sun adds to the overall image.

An American Kestrel on a power line gives us a look at the beauty brought to us on a clear day. Notice the blues here are are even deeper and more powerful than the blue sky owl photo.

Bald Eagles are outstanding in the blue sky days of winter.

Winter in general, at least in the longitudes of Wisconsin, is the best time for either flight, or posed imagery with birds.

Spring has its advantages too. The return of migratory birds such as these male Ruby-throated Hummingbirds is to be celebrated.

Male Yellow-warbler

Hawk, gray skies and from behind.

Snow and ice can add a lot to an image. Bald Eagles in this state (Wisconsin), are overly abundant in winter. We have them all year, but winter is their, or better said our playground. This immature bird was fishing through holes in the ice on the Mississippi River. Not the norm for a bird that usually dives to the water and snatches fish out of the water with their talons.

Of course waterfowl and water, naturally go together.

Sometimes, especially when up close behavior is desired, common birds will produce easy and close encounters for detail laden portraits of them preening. Good light, nice behavior, and birds that cooperate are hard to beat.

Canada Goose.

A goose of another color. Ross’s Goose?

Northern Pintail and Northern Shoveler.

Pintail

Female Hooded Merganser.

Rough legged Hawk. It seemed to be hunting from a perch.
but clearly he cannot read.

I thought today I would share with you some classic rock song lyrics from the 70s, I believe

Fleetwood Mac

Landslide
I took my love and took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
‘Til the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older, and I’m getting older too

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older, and I’m getting older too
Oh, I’m getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring you down

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring you down
Oh, the landslide will bring you down

The Chain

Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies
You will never love me againAnd if you don’t love me now

I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)
And if you don’t love me now (you don’t love me now)
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying (still hear you saying)
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)
Listen to the wind blow, down comes the night
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies
Break the silence, damn the dark, damn the light
And if you don’t love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)
And if you don’t love me now (you don’t love me now)
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying (still hear you saying)
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)
And if you don’t love me now (you don’t love me now)
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying (still hear you saying)
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)
Chain keep us together (running in the shadow)

God Bless Israel

We should all give thanks that the parishners from two Catholic Churches in Kenosha, Wisconsin whio were visiting Israel narrowly escaped to Jordon before a masacer. I believe there were 33 of them.

God be with you,
Wayne
