I Should Have Been a Cowboy + Don’t Let The Old Man In.

I have filled these pages with many words over the years. Words can be rich, and they can be poor. They can be false, or they can be truth. They can spell love, or they can spread hate.

I have shared many Bible verses over the years. Wisdom, truth, and judgment abound.

It is natural for a blog, even what is supposed to be a photography blog, to be based on words.

I have copied onto these pages poetry from the world’s greatest poets, and from those who most have never heard from.

Legendary lines of dialog from movies and also from famous playwrights.

Mostly I have shared my own thoughts and opinions. Be they good, bad, or ugly.

Among my favorite words to share are song lyrics.

It is true that words from songs when you do not hear the music, can be difficult to put together if you will. With that said, as long as I write this blog, the music of words will be shared here.

Many of the lyrics I have put on these pages have come from rock. The blues, folk, musicals from the theater and TV as well. In many ways those I have “swiped” from country music say the most to me. They do so in sort of a simplistic fashion that I like. Down to earth.

Simplicity is just as much art as is complexity.

In the era of country music between the 1980s and today, singer/songwriter Toby Keith has been one of my favorites. I remember him when he began, and now he is one of the “old timers” of country. I suspect, that Toby and I share some political thoughts, and words will ring home and contain a shared sentiment when that it is the case.

I have more or less been a frustrated cowboy “want to be” most of my life. I have been fortunate and blessed to have owned horses, and lived some tiny little fragments of being a cowboy.

Toby Keith.

I Should Have Been a Cowboy
I bet you’ve never heard ol’ Marshal Dillon say
Miss Kitty, have you ever thought of runnin’ away?
Settlin’ down, would you marry me
If I asked you twice and begged you, pretty please?
She’d have said, “Yes”, in a New York minute
They never tied the knot, his heart wasn’t in it
He just stole a kiss as he rode away
He never hung his hat up at Kitty’s place
I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve learned to rope and ride
Wearin’ my six-shooter, ridin’ my pony on a cattle drive
Stealin’ the young girls’ hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singin’ those campfire songs
Woah, I should’ve been a cowboy
I might of had a sidekick with a funny name
Runnin’ wild through the hills chasin’ Jesse James
Ending up on the brink of danger
Ridin’ shotgun for the Texas Rangers
Go west young man, haven’t you been told?
California’s full of whiskey, women and gold
Sleepin’ out all night beneath the desert stars
With a dream in my eye and a prayer in my heart
I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve learned to rope and ride
Wearin’ my six-shooter, ridin’ my pony on a cattle drive
Stealin’ the young girls’ hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singin’ those campfire songs
Woah, I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve learned to rope and ride
I’d be wearin’ my six-shooter, ridin’ my pony on a cattle drive
Stealin’ the young girls’ hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singin’ those campfire songs
Woah, I should’ve been a cowboy
Yeah, I should’ve been a cowboy
I should’ve been a cowboy

From his more recent, older years

Don’t Let The Old Man In.

I suspect he is writing about the battle (war) against getting old.

Don’t Let The Old Man In
Don’t let the old man in
I wanna leave this alone
Can’t leave it up to him
He’s knocking on my door
And I knew all of my life
That someday it would end
Get up and go outside
Don’t let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born
Try to love on your wife
And stay close to your friends
Toast each sundown with wine
Don’t let the old man in
Many moons I have lived
My body’s weathered and worn
Ask yourself how would you be
If you didn’t know the day you were born
When he rides up on his horse
And you feel that cold bitter wind
Look out your window and smile
Don’t let the old man in
Look out your window and smile
Don’t let the old man in

============================================================
Today’s images all have something in common that is unusual for my posts, none are true nature photos. The hand of man shows in one way or another in all of them. All but the auto racing image are architecturally based and historic.
One of my passions was always auto racing. Many years were spent with a camera (s), in the midst of noise. Below I believe was at the Milwaukee Mile.

The color of light has much to do with what images look like. Below is Wind Point light in Racine, Wi.

An old industrial building along the Mississippi River shows both texture and character.

If you’re going to create images of a legendary location such as the San Xavier Mission in Arizona, make a lot of photos.

Old windows in old buildings, have character. To me, they were a subject in and of themselves.

Sometimes I would photograph and entire building, more often piece work.

Lighthouses come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

I photographed this historic old sailing ship many, many years ago. Once again, piece work.

The southwest and all of its Native American ruins are another bonanza for photographers. The Pecos Ruins, and the Qauri Ruins of New Mexico are followed by some petroglyphs in Utah.

Whatever your subjects, passion and hard work will bring you what you want.

May God richly bless each of you,
Wayne
