Theodore Roosevelt National Park

This article on Theodore Rooselvelt N. P. is in keeping with previous posts about White Sands, Big Bend, Crex Meadows, Bong State Rec. Area and a few others.

Teddy as I call it, may be the most ignored great destination for nature photographers in North America.  It is superb for both landscapes and wildlife.  I only wish I could have visited here a dozen times instead of two brief stops.  I’ve never even seen the north side of the park.

My first stop here (during film days) was intended to be a two stay visit but things came up and I wound up spending four hours at Teddy.  I found some incredible rock forms.  Everything from red rock to blonde forms and on to twisted rope like black lava formations.  I spent my morning scouting those type of forms for sunset, and photographing wildlife and over views of the park.  I wound up leaving before sunset.

My second trip here was with Ron and we never intended to be here very long, as we were on our way to Yellowstone.

The bison and prairie dog shots along with all of the landscapes except for autumn, were made on that first trip, with the fall pix and the rest of the wildlife being made on the second trip.1Slides9 0652SlidesNov2012 0113TR124Slides9 0665DSC_65416DSC_66217TR2

A couple of years ago I studied a body of work from a landscape photographer who has worked Teddy in all kinds of light, and in all seasons.  The work was breathtaking and I was then sure of what I had assumed before, this is an incredible location.

Never let someone (like me) decide for you whether a place such as Teddy or Big Bend is great.  We are all different and one person’s heaven is another’s hell.  I am very easy to please when I am on the road with my cameras so a more discerning person may see the flaws in a place like Teddy where I only saw the beauty.

I have not decided whether or not there will be any more in this series of places and animal species.  I was asked a question by a Facebook friend who frequents this blog, inquiring why I have never written an article about Horicon Marsh NWR.  I may be too lazy to do that.  I could go on forever with that subject.  I have landscapes including sunrise/sunsets. Mammals, insects of all kinds, many flowers, reptiles and amphibians and of course birds, birds, birds.  I even have images of the boardwalk itself and administration buildings.  I have pictures from the state portion of Horicon.  I have supplied pictures for entire articles (by others) about Horicon.  I am exhausted just thinking about it.

I hope all of you have a great day,                                                                                                      Wayne
