Please excuse the two posts in one day.  I had the depth of field article ready to go when I decided to send out these few images that I made on Tuesday morning.

For all of you who live in southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, the Great Egret migration is in full force.  I was at Bong State Rec. Area a few weeks ago and spotted about 100 birds total flying over head.  Some of those could have been counted twice. On a visit this past Tuesday, after seeing a couple of egrets feeding well out in the various wetlands, I decided to take the short drive west on Highway 142 to the next road to the north.  Just before you reach that road there is a small wetland that often has a wading bird or two.  There are two dead trees there and they had somewhere between 15 and 20 egrets perched in those trees.  I won’t go into the reason why I did not make that photo myself, but birds, even migrating birds are creatures of habit.   I’m just saying.

Below are three images made from that day.

Pied-billed Grebe at sunrise.  Now a days I will from time to time share an image that might have a bit of a disturbing background.  I found the light on this little bird to be pleasing so instead of burying it in my files because of the background….here it is.

Solitary Sandpiper.

A close-up visit with a red-railed Hawk.  It can be amazing how these guys can turn their heads 180 degrees from front and center.
