As a marksman I felt a little off the mark today. Just the same I fired some shots and they are below.
Images will slowly become clear after they have downloaded.
All fluffed up. Male American Goldfinch.
When butterflies are lucky enough to live a comparatively long life, the stress of that life shows. Bent and tattered wings make it clear that this Tiger Swallowtail has had a long life in butterfly years. As story telling photographers I have always believed that it is important for us to make all sorts of images, including those of butterflies that are past their prime.

You and me are well past our prime too…….we don’t make a pretty picture like we used too. :>)
Actually think it may have emerged that way. We don’t have that excuse.
look at the feet of the goldfinch. He may have mites making him shed his scales or he may just be sheding as in molt.
I can see the males starting into molt, but he is shaking it out. The next three shots are all
totally motion fuzzy. He may be shaking because of mites though. Lots of youngsters still trying to beg from adults. Then they give up and copy them. Funny they beg mostly from males. Wonder if it’s the bright colors?
