I loving paying homage to where things begin, and as far as the nature part of my photography is concerned, it began with sunrises/sunsets. This form of photography is a colorful, moody exercise that fits who I am really well.
There are no true literalists when it comes to sunrises and sunsets. Our eyes (brains) can see so many shades of color and light that we put photographic technology to shame. HDR imagery can approach the many levels of light we see, but often does so with overly saturated colors. The point to be made is that with the images we create with our cameras point towards the light source that we call the sun, how we choose for our finished images to appear, is a subjective act. My own personal tastes dictate that most of my sunrise/sunsets are naturally saturated. This means I lean towards under exposure. I do this two ways. I either shoot in the manual exposure mode (spot metering) and point that 1% spot at the second brightest point in the picture frame. That usually means right next to the light source. Otherwise I have my camera on aperture priority and multi segmented metering and I then dial in minus 1 full stop of light. The images below are naturally saturated just as I wanted them to be.

Remember I said that most of my sunrises lean towards moody and saturated. Every so often I change things up and pursue lighter more ethereal images. These pictures lend themselves to abstracts which makes them very inviting to me.

A lot of the time I simply turn to the sky for my subject. No need for any shapes to silhouette with this type of shot.
Gone fishing. I also let signs of man creep into my images at this time of day.
Enjoy this beautiful day and God Bless
