Elk have been an occasional photographic subject of mine. All of my images have been made in either Colorado, Wyoming or Alberta, Canada. I usually get a few goose bumps when I am in the presence of this large member of the deer family. We have re-introduced Elk here in Wisconsin and I was fortunate to have seen a small herd in the Chequamegon National Forest a few years ago. Many years ago as I was driving into Washington State’s Hoh Rainforest I spotted a bull and six cows of the enormous Roosevelt Elk subspecies. Unfortunatley it was a good thirty minutes before sunrise and I decided not to track them (my fault) through the contrasty forest. The images below were all made in Wyoming. Bonus Shot
For the first time our bonus shot is not my picture. This image of a California Quail was made by my great friend and fellow photographer Ron Toel I have my own pictures of the very similar Gambel’s Quail but I do not like any of them as much as this clean and beautiful image of Ron’s.
I am more than happy use this blog to publish writings and pictures from others. No where near as many people will see it as they would have on my old website but it is here for you if you like.
